Hi all, I hope everyone is keeping well. There has been some exciting news in the realm of batteries, new Nuclear Diamond batteries cold be hitting the shelves and powering your devices as soon 2024. These batteries could run for 2800 years without charging, they run by utilising the electrical properties of diamond activated by nuclear material such as Carbon-14 or Tridium. It achieves this in a process called Betavoltaics similar to the process of photovoltaics, using bate particles as opposed to light to generate elasticity. All while solving the problem of nuclear waste and helping the environment. All while being safe as no radiation breaches the diamond layer.  It’s a new dawn for power generation and massive leap for mankind in my opinion, I’m excited about it. I have been saying for years that nuclear holds the key to a self-contained power generator or cell, everyone laughed saying it was a pipe dream– but I knew nuclear was the future. Feels good to be right.

In more philosophical thinking’s I’ve been pondering perception, this aspect of experience or of viewing reality. In my last blog I satiated that I believe there is an objective reality, however that we only view this reality relative to ourselves. That we have to turn to measurable phenomenon to generate an accurate imaged of reality. That we a limited to being the judge of our own knowledge and not the judge of what does and does not exist. This things perception though presents a big problem to be solved, I probably will never solve it.

One of the things I think is importuned to understand is that is that reality has the quality of experience, within reality objects have qualities that represent the nature of said objects. Like I said in my last post we don’t view objects directly but only through our senses, we are not the thought this is an object we are as the experience or the experiencing of that object the thought comes after. According to John Locke objects have primary and secondary qualities, primary qualities have direct relation to the object or its nature. Secondary qualities are additional features that add verity to the object. Primary qualities include extension (size), Figure (shape), motion or reast, number and solidity (impenetrability). Secondary qualities include colour, taste, smell, sound warmth or cold. A prime example to properly understand this is the difference is between mass and weight, mass is a primary quality while weight is a secondary quality. QED the longer we hold something the heavier it feels, its mass does not change. An object under earths gravity might weigh 50kg yet in space be weightless, what counts is the objects mass. Mass is a truer representation of an object in reality.

So, its stands to reason that perception is not king. Yet we still measure relative to ourselves our needs and understandings take president. Ergo we are important only to ourselves things apper important relative to our needs. That is to say how a lesser (I don’t like the term lesser but for lac of a better descriptor I will use it) animal sees the world is far different to how a human would see the world, we would see things impotent to us. Take for instance the Bee, its sees colour we need equipment to see. Survival then plays a huge role in how we perceive the world, both in a personal sense and an objective sense. Danger seems to me to be a common factor in all perception, yet to varying degrees within the human experience. Some of us are more risk adverse than others, when we are presented with an unknown people react differently.

Its fair to say (I think) that perception defines us as individuals, that perception is based on how one experiences reality. Yet still it can be said we have shared experience, there are things that happen to all of us. There is this thing that called reality that we all perceive and experience, this thing we have no choice in– we have no choice but to experience reality. Needless to say, this thing called perception confuses me. I haven’t got a firm handle on it yet. But I know we have to make room for the fact that all life experiences the same thing differently, that perception varies between individuals. That I think means we all have to be open to objective facts about reality, that is to say that which can be measured and falsified. Because its is in that comprises and willingness to accept thing outside of our perceptions that we survive best as groups. That is to say there is truth outside of our perceptions, feelings and intuitions– facts and laws that help us survive and innovate. Without this objective reality we would not get such advances as Nuclear Diamond Batteries, in many cases this thing called perception gets in the way of progress. For example, some people have this perception that nuclear is bad– had such perceptions prevailed we would not have continued to experiment with it. Ultimately would not have made such a game changing advancement. Perception then can be said not to be reality but is part of its nature a quality of experience that can both help and hider survival.

Anyway, thanks for reading my ramblings once again these are just my thoughts on the topic. You might have better insights and more of grasp on such things, if your so moved please comment and share your thoughts. Even if you think I’m wrong I won’t to here for you. Stay well all.
